Memorial Day 2022

Over the Memorial Day weekend, the University of Chicago honored our fallen, gave recognition to our troops and veterans, and provided support to those who care for our heroes.

The University would like to thank our partners for this weekend of events; Chicago Veterans, the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, the Elizabeth Dole Foundation's Hidden Heroes Initiative, the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, and IL State Representative, US Marine Corps Veteran, Chair of the Veterans Affairs Committee in the Illinois General Assembly, Stephanie Kifowit.

We also would like to thank the volunteers who supported the annual Chicago Veterans Ruck March, speakers for the Chicago Impact Forum for Caregivers, and volunteers who placed flags at the gravesites of our heroes.

A special thank you to Michele Rasmussen, Dean of Students in the University, and Deborah Gorman-Smith, Dean of the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice for providing remarks at the annual Ruck March.

Most importantly, thank you to the brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms!
